After the successful completion of three prototype elementary schools, SMNG-A was selected as Architect-of-Record for the new Chicago Public Schools prototype design for Claremont Academy. This second generation prototype was refined in consultation with the Managing Architect, CPS and the Public Building Commission.
The plan includes 38 classrooms, cafeteria with complete kitchen, media center, and gymnasium with performance stage. Exterior features include a dynamic, upturned roof and special incised cut stone paving at the entry plaza designed to stimulate students, faculty, and parents as they enter the school. Among other interesting features are a vegetative roof and a photo voltaic that will produce a portion of the schools electricity and provide a working display for science education.
