Infant Welfare Society Clinic is an adaptive use of a bank building originally constructed in 1924 located at the corner of Fullerton and Central Park in the Logan Square neighborhood in Chicago. The 31,000 square foot building has been expanded within its original boundaries by filling in the second level of the old banking floor and the void of the original U-shaped third level plan. The floor infill areas expanded the total building area to over 39,000 square feet.

Clinical programs include pediatric dental care, pediatric health, women’s health, mental health and family services. Clinic administrative services, a re-sale store that supports the clinic programs and a community meeting room to complete the building functions.

SMNG-A provided needs assessment, building programming, and property evaluation services prior to the purchase of the  building. A general contractor was engaged by the owner to provide pre-construction services leading to a guaranteed maximum price for the building and site improvement work.  IWS Clinic opened on time and within the budget projected at the beginning of the work.

IWS Clinic received a LEED Certified rating from the USGBC, the first community based not-for-profit to reach this goal in Illinois.

SMNG-A was honored by the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation with the 2006 2nd place award for architectural excellence in community design for the IWS Clinic.
