Metropolitan Family Services Children’s Center is a four classroom build-out within a mixed occupancy building. An assisted living facility is located above the center and commercial and retail spaces are left and right of the center. The kids’ play lot is located across the yard from the assisted living facility’s multi-purpose room providing for wonderful interactions between elderly residents and children. Classrooms accommodate infants, toddlers, and 3-5 year olds. Administrative support areas include a conference room, reception, offices, and a warming kitchen providing a continuous supply of warm cookies among more nutritious snacks and meals.
The classroom spaces are filled with natural daylight provided by a combination of existing and newly created openings in exterior walls. A collaborative design process resulted in a vibrant yet soothing color palette throughout the center. A variety of finish materials creates interesting contrasts and was selected for durability and to meet functional needs.
