WRITER’S STUDIO

The form and materials of this studio were inspired by the traditional farmstead vernacular of southwest Michigan. Horizontal gapped siding takes its cue from the traditional design of wooden corn cribs. The studio is divided into thirds: writing, service, and screened porch and the board siding masks each of these functions. A sleeping loft is provided over the lower level writing and service spaces. Translucent polycarbonate gable ends provide diffuse light to the writing studio and screen porch.
